A Spec Home With Style

As seen in the latest issue of New England Home CT, the kitchen in this Westport spec home, designed by Laura Gorman Interiors and Karen Berkemeyer, boasts a beautiful balance of classic charm and practical functionality.

From The Article

Paraphrased from New England Home writer Paula Bodah, this kitchen was designed with clean white shaker-style cabinets mixed with brushed brass hardware giving the space its classic look; while the use of various textures and colors gives it personality.

One bank of cabinetry was designed with a dreamy blue-gray paint harboring a built-in beverage station of warm oak, a material that Karen and Laura chose to repeat in the floating shelves near the sink.

The island is lit by three pendant lights with ceramic shades acting as a textural counterpart to the glossy white subway-tile backsplash walls.

“People often put crown moldings at the top of cabinets, but we did a very simple molding with square details.” Karen states in an interview with Paula, which helps add to the classic look that was carried out throughout the rest of the home.
